The Air Astana ‘Upcycling for the Future’ project involves the creative recycling of used aircraft parts, with furniture having been previously exhibited at various locations across Almaty since 2022.
The aim of the Air Astana project is to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact. Air Astana Group is the largest airline group in Central Asia and the Caucasus regions by revenue and fleet size.
The group operates a fleet of 51 aircraft split between Air Astana, its full-service airline that operated its inaugural flight in 2002, and FlyArystan, its low-cost airline established in 2019.
The furniture items were produced by local artists using parts from an Airbus A321 fuselage and interior structures from a Boeing B767.
“Air Astana is committed to the principles of sustainable development,” Air Astana director of compliance and sustainability, Yulia Lim, said.
“The Upcycling for the Future project is an example of the careful approach to managing resources and recycling, which is a strategic priority for Air Astana.
“We are delighted that this unique aircraft furniture is being installed in the new Almaty Airport international terminal, where passengers will be reminded of the importance of sustainable development.”
