Air New Zealand has informed agents that it has made the ‘difficult decision’ to introduce a seasonal suspension to its Gold Coast to Christchurch services from November 2025 to March 2026.
The decision reflects ongoing demand and market conditions, it said, along with its wider fleet constraints. It said it remains committed to providing reliable services across its network, adding that the suspension will only impact a small number of customers.
In an update, it informed agents that “Changes will be reflected in your GDS over the coming weeks, and any agents with affected customers should refer to our schedule change policy or contact Agency Sales Support for assistance.”
Whilst this update is new, Air New Zealand has already warned agents and customers that some of its schedules will be impacted by fleet constraints.
Explaining the pause on its website, it said: “Our commitment to safety and operational excellence drives our decisions. Due to ongoing challenges with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines in our Boeing 787 planes, we’ve had to make some tough choices. These engine issues, while not posing a safety risk to our passengers, have led us to temporarily pause certain routes.”
“Additionally, this decision is necessitated by the need to accommodate mandatory Global Pratt & Whitney (P&W) engine maintenance for some of our grounded aircraft. Specifically, a rare condition has been identified in its P&W1100 engines.”
Other impacted routes include Auckland to Chicago, Auckland to Noumea, Auckland to Seoul.
