International airline passengers are being warned to prepare for long delays with customs and immigration staff to go on strike from Thursday for 24 hours.
Immigration, Border Protection and Agriculture department workers will walk out in a week-long strike against the government, joining public sector workers from across Centrelink, Medicare and twelve other federal government departments and agencies who will all go on strike from today.
The public servants are protesting a two-year wage freeze with this major strike part of an ongoing action against what union representatives have described as the “Federal Government’s attack on existing rights in bargaining”.
The Community and Public Sector Union insisted the action was essential and admitted the travelling public would be affected.
Travellers are being warned to expect massive delays.
