Andrew Macfarlane comes out of retirement to become Intrepid’s purpose specialist ANZ

Intrepid has announced the appointment of Andrew Macfarlane as its purpose specialist in Australia and New Zealand.

He will be instrumental in helping Intrepid reach its goal of becoming the most trusted and recognised corporate purpose leader in ANZ.

Macfarlane has come out of retirement to take on this position and has a breadth of experience within the travel industry. Macfarlane joined the industry in 1990 when he took on a position at STA Travel, holding various Product, Sales and Marketing roles before moving to Vancouver, Canada to found STA Travel in that market.

Returning in 2004, he took on various roles at Air New Zealand, STA Travel, Jetstar and most recently was CEO of Magellan Travel Group, which he joined in 2008 and grew to a 125-agent network before the Group was acquired by Helloworld Limited in 2018.

Brett Mitchell, managing director ANZ at Intrepid Travel said: “We are thrilled to have Andrew join our ANZ team to take on our Purpose Specialist role. With his experience and broad industry knowledge, we know he will help Intrepid reach our goal of becoming the most trusted and recognised corporate purpose leader in ANZ.”

Andrew Macfarlane, purpose specialist ANZ at Intrepid Travel said: “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to champion Intrepid’s purpose agenda within the region and am excited to work with like-minded people who aspire to make a positive difference to people and the planet as we explore the world.

“I have long admired Intrepid’s purpose beyond profit model. Our alignment on purpose is what has drawn me out of retirement and to Intrepid, in particular, the focus on climate change, biodiversity and First Nations designed and led tourism.”

Intrepid Travel said that it is delighted to announce this appointment as part of it’s continued focus on purpose in the ANZ team. As the company grows, Intrepid is committed to delivering the best experience to customers, agents and partners.
