Applications are closing soon for the City of Gold Coast’s 2026 Nature-Based Tourism (NBT) Program.
Developed in response to visitor demand, the program supports new and existing tourism operators in developing low-impact, immersive experiences that foster appreciation and conservation of the Gold Coast’s natural environment and cultural heritage.
The region’s beaches, waterways and rainforests contribute billions of tourism dollars to the local economy and the NBT grant program represents a significant government investment in the future of the destination.
Businesses interested in ecotourism opportunities can apply for funding under two distinct tiers:
1. Small grants under $100,000 for quick activations – closing 30 June 2026
This tier is open to projects that can be started immediately and be completed by 30 June 2027. Applicants must provide a 20 per cent cash co-contribution to the project and have all necessary City-issued permits, lease or licence agreements secured.
2. Large grants between $100,000 to $500,000 for significant nature-based tourism projects and associated infrastructure – closing 31 July 2026
Projects under this tier may include planning, building or site-specific constraints. Initial project milestones must have potential to be delivered by 30 June 2027.

The ‘Green behind the Gold’
Last year, the City awarded more than $2.5 million in funding to 23 grant applicants spanning eco-accommodation, wildlife conservation, nature tours and First Nations cultural experiences.
Successful 2025 applicants included The Bower Estate Woodlands Precinct, Wild&Co, Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat & Spa, Levinge Events and Ediblescapes.
To support the region’s world-class nature-based tourism offerings, the council is also investing in a number of flagship projects.
Private investment opportunities are available at the Gold Coast Hinterland and Woonoongoora Eco Camp and Springbrook ‘Eaglemont Estate’, as well as Tipplers precinct enhancements, accommodation and experience development on South Stradbroke Island.
