Intrepid Travel unveils collection of destination guidebooks.

Intrepid Travel has unveiled a collection of experience-led destination guidebooks inspired by their experience-rich, locally-led travel style, available to purchase online and in leading bookstores.

The Intrepid Guides feature a collection of three initial guidebooks, featuring immersive experiences from Japan, Iceland, and Australia, encouraging travellers to learn something new and connect with the people and places they visit.

Following the launch of Intrepid’s inaugural book, The Intrepid List, in 2024, this latest publishing venture builds on Intrepid’s ambition to use storytelling to inspire positive change through travel. Unlike traditional guidebooks, the Intrepid Guides are experience-led rather than destination focused. From journeying from Perth to Sydney on Australia’s transcontinental train, to sampling sushi in Japan’s fish markets, to chasing waterfalls in Iceland, each guide highlights places, activities and experiences that promise life-long memories, while emphasising the importance of travelling in a conscious and ethical manner.

“Intrepid Guides are for the intrepid traveller – those that have a curiosity to see the world in a more meaningful way,” Intrepid Travel global brand director Natalie Placko said. “We believe that travel is more than just seeing the world, it’s about experiencing it. Through authentic experiences and memorable moments, we hope to inspire intrepid travellers to explore some of the world’s most popular destinations in a responsible way and connect with the people and places they visit.”

The Intrepid Guides follow a thematic format, featuring chapters on: Nature, Wildlife, Activities & Sports, Festivals & Events, Food & Drink, History, Architecture, Art & Culture, Slow Travel and Responsible Travel. With over 35 years of experience in taking travellers around the globe and trips in over 100 countries, Intrepid plans to continue to expand its Intrepid Guide range, with guides for Vietnam and Italy launching later this year.

The collection represents the second phase of Intrepid’s publishing partnership with Hardie Grant Explore. The Intrepid List, which launched in 2024 was a first-of-its-kind hard-cover book of 100 unique stories from travellers around the globe.

The first series of guidebooks are available to purchase globally online and in leading bookstores across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada and the US.

Book prices:

  • Japan – $33.95
  • Iceland – $34.95
  • Australia – $39.99
