Just when you though plane travel couldn’t be more uncomfortable, allow us to introduce to you this fresh horror.

That’s right, folks, it looks like standing seats are back on the agenda.

Italian firm, Aviointeriors unveiled the new SkyRider 2.0 seats last week at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, reports Esquire.

The firm’s CEO Ermanno De Vecchi told Stuff that the design has been eight years in the making.

“The seat allows 23″ pitch instead of the 28″ currently installed on the majority of aircraft, so it helps increase the density,” he said.

“This allows us to carry more passengers and, consequently, more income and tickets will be less expensive.”

No airlines have yet confirmed they will use the seats, but De Vecchi believes the seats will soon be commonplace.

Personally, the idea of being closer to our fellow passengers don’t exactly make us jump for joy.

Our legs hurt just looking at these.
