The Australian Tourism Export Council will roll out the first of its Welcoming Chinese Visitors workshops to Western Australian tourism operators in Perth and Margaret River next week.

The China-ready program is a collaboration between ATEC, learning and development specialist AVANA, mainland China-based China Ready & Accredited and the TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute.

It uses case studies to illustrate how businesses can successfully venture into the Chinese market, with the real-life experiences offering recommendations on which approaches work best. It also offers pre and post-training support with the opportunity to apply for individual certification and business accreditation.

ATEC managing director Felicia Mariani stressed it is "much more than cultural awareness training" and underlined the potential of the Chinese market for WA.

"There are over 30,000 visitors who spend some $170 million during their visits to the State," she said. "With direct service from Guangzhou to Perth with China Southern, the opportunities for WA tourism businesses are immense and the industry in WA needs to be prepared to service the needs of this important segment of the inbound market."

There are 20 sessions planned across Australia in the first half of the year.
