Alitalia to raise local profile with Australia General Sales Agent
By admin

Italian flag carrier, Alitalia, has appointed Aviation Online as its general sales and service agent in Australia and New Zealand as it looks to strengthen its presence in the local market.

The airline’s vice president Asia Pacific, Gianluca Testa, described Australia as a target growth market and outlined plans to raise its profile and sales performance across the region.

The carrier codeshares with Virgin Australia alliance partner Etihad from Sydney and Melbourne to Rome and Milan, via Abu Dhabi.

“Alitalia serves more than 100 destinations in Europe from our hub in Rome [and] Australia and New Zealand are important source markets for leisure, business and visiting friends and relatives travel to, within and beyond Italy to points throughout Europe and North Africa,” Testa said.  “Our decision to appoint Aviation Online refreshes and strengthens our presence in the Australasia region as we seek to increase our profile and our sales.”

Aviation Online managing director, Anthony Cassar, said a key objective will be to reintroduce Rome as a gateway to Europe, in addition to building greater awareness of Alitalia in Australia and NZ.

The airline offers 10 weekly flights between Tokyo Narita and Rome, four between Narita and Milan and five between Osaka and Rome.

From April 2 Alitalia will also launch flights between Narita and Venice.
