Aussie call to world’s walkers

Aussie call to world’s walkers
By admin

Australia’s walking destinations are to be showcased to nature lovers worldwide with the launch of Great Walks of Australia (GWOA), a new collective of independently owned and managed walks.

GWOA aims to build awareness of Australia as a “world-class walking destination” by inviting people to become a “Great Australian Walker” and plan their itineraries through its website, www.greatwalksofaustralia.com.au.

Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy welcomed the new initiative, highlighting “enormous” opportunities to build Australia’s walks into holiday itineraries.

“Importantly the professional experience and expertise behind this initiative will help make these walks more accessible to visitors, especially those markets who want to explore and interact with our nature but also value the knowledge and insight that an experienced and passionate guide can bring to their experience,” he said.

Its seven founding members include Cradle Mountain Huts Walk, Tasmania; Freycinet Experience Walk, Tasmania; the Arkaba Walk, South Australia; the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk, Tasmania; the Great Ocean Walk, Victoria; the Larapinta Trail, NT and the Maria Island Walk, Tasmania.
