Australian visitors to Peru on the rise
By admin

The number of Australian visitors to Peru soared to new heights in the first half of the year, as improved air access and awareness of the destination took effect, according to PromPeru.

The tourism body reported a a record number of Australian visitors to the South American country between January and June, up 23% year on year to 17,388.

The growth marks a considerable improvement on 2011’s annual growth of just 1% to 30,436 visitors.

PromPeru’s Asia Pacific coordinator Rosana Guinea attributed the rise to increased promotion and awareness of the destination and improved air access.

The tourism body has been present in the Australian market for more than four years to “educate and work with the trade” to promote the destination.

PromPeru aims to build on the growth by hosting quiz night-style roadshows in Melbourne and Sydney on October 2 and 3 respectively.
