CMV to base first ship in Australia
By admin

UK-based operator Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) has confirmed the first step of its Australasian expansion will see luxury liner The Astor homeported at Fremantle from December.

The 620-guest liner will operate itineraries through the Australian summer from the West Australian port, and is confirmed for an initial schedule of three summer seasons.

CMV also confirmed it has plans to open a dedicated sales office in Sydney.

Chairman and chief executive Christian Verhounig said the firm would soon release its program of 15 voyages to take place over the summer season.

The Astor will depart Rome on November 5 to make the journey Down Under, heading back north on April 1, he revealed.

"The success of the mid-size traditinal ship bsuiness model, since it was launched in 2004, demonstrates that this niche sector has a significant place in the Australian cruise industry; a market and philosophy that is a perfect match to our UK operation," Verhounig said.
