Fresh China-ready call for operators

Fresh China-ready call for operators

Tourism operators in Far North Queensland must adapt product to cater to the Chinese market following the start of new direct services from China to Cairns, the Australian and Tourism Export Council (ATEC) has warned.

Managing director Felicia Mariani highlighted the importance of “capacity building programs’ such as ATEC’s own Welcoming Chinese Visitors training scheme which will be available via a virtual academy from early 2013. Small businesses in particular needed support to enter the marketplace successfully, she added.

“The introduction of new services into Cairns, recently announced by China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines, brings Chinese visitors directly to the doorstep of Far North Queensland and puts a significant onus on local operators to provide culturally appropriate services,” Mariani said.

“This will be the way we ensure these services become permanent and Cairns becomes a beneficiary of the growing demand for Australian tourism experiences coming out of Asia right now.”
