Tiger Airways Australia chief executive Andrew David is to join his third Australian airline in three years after accepting a position to head Jetstar's expanding long haul network.

David joined Tiger in 2011 from Virgin Blue where he was chief operating officer.

He will join Jetstar "during 2013" as chief executive of its long haul operations out of Australia and Singapore and will report to Jetstar Group CEO Jane Hrdlicka.

"He understands low fares and he understands our key markets," Hrdlicka said. "A key part of Andrew's role will be the smooth integration of the Boeing 787 into the Jetstar fleet, as well as contributing to ongoing improvements in customer service, operational safety and revenue growth."

Tiger said in a statement that David will remain with the airline "over the coming months" to ensure a smooth transition to a new CEO.

In another change, Jetstar Australia and New Zealand chief executive David Hall will focus on the carrier's narrow-body A320 operations, including trans-Tasman flights and international flying from Australia to Asia and the Pacific.
