Midweek Interview with David Morrison, senior account manager, Sabre Pacific

The challenge for the industry is….constant change and keeping up with it. The modern day traveller knows more than ever before, they have multiple ways of travel fulfilment and they are far more focused on price. The industry needs to be aware of this and embrace the change and the technology, rather than fighting it.

The things I like about my job are….my fellow Melbourne team members.

And the frustrations… fragmented content.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be….an electrician. I have been electrocuted so many times that I should get around to learning about how it works.

Qantas or Virgin?….Qantas. After 13 years with Air New Zealand, I developed a lot of long standing relationships with many QF Staff.

My proudest…moment was watching my son win the Under 12 Eastern Baseball league pennant.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…nudie run on an educational.

I relax by…learning about something new. Recently I have been learning about the American Civil War and have managed to visit key locations associated with the war.

The last time I feared for my life…13 years ago, when my wife discovered she was pregnant.

If I can, I always try to avoid…Indian food.

I really wish I had…more time in the day.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…“Don’t burn any bridges”.

I don’t understand why…when you order a hamburger with the lot, beetroot is not included? My greatest weakness is…technology. I love new things

And my greatest strength…is patience. This is a skill that has been honed over 25 years in the travel industry and is now used daily on my son.

If I was prime minister I would…abolish the multiple layers of government. I would start with local council and move this into the portfolio of State Government.

If I won $1 million on the lottery I would…not be telling you what I was going to do with it!

If I could be someone else for one day I would be…Michael Palin. He has travelled the globe and seen things that I would love to see. To walk a day in his shoes would be phenomenal.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…Bhutan.

My favourite holiday was…the USA.  I have been to the USA over 24 times and managed to visit my 50th State in June 2012.
