Midweek Interview with Elliott Miller, regional director of sales Australia, COMO Hotels & Resorts
By admin

The challenge for the industry is… technology, the new wave of mobile booking technology this is going to change the way we search and book travel forever and it is growing faster than anyone could have imagined.

The things I like about my job are… working for an award winning small boutique hotel group, the staff make my job so easy, my colleagues in sales & the fact that I get to travel around the world and get paid to do it.

And the frustrations… the power of the airlines, we give them way to much and they give us the least flexibility unless you pay a fortune.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be… I don’t ever think about that as I could never imagine being tied to a desk and not travelling as part of my job!

Qantas or Virgin? Most definitely Virgin all the way.

My proudest moment was… Opening an office for COMO Hotels & Resorts in Sydney nearly 4 years ago and making it successful (still here!)

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… I am never naughty, well not that I can admit in this interview!!

I try to relax by… with my love of sport whether it is biking, running, playing Football (you call soccer!), hanging with friends enjoying some of the best restaurants, cafes & bars in the world here in Sydney.

The last time I feared for my life… was biking down the ‘Most dangerous Road in the World’ in Bolivia, it’s not called that for nothing, but what an amazing experience. Oh yeah and needing oxygen at the top (5,895m) of Mt Kilimanjaro…

If I can, I always try to avoid… flying in economy on international trips

I really wish I had… a private jet, 2 months holiday a year and a COMO property in Australia.

The best advice I’ve ever received was… we are not in the job of saving lives, whatever it is, it can wait until tomorrow, go home!

I don’t understand why… vegemite even exists when there is marmite!

My greatest weakness is… travel, I need to be on the move and something planned all the time

And my greatest strength… being able to adapt in any environment and fitting into any circumstances, meeting new people and finding common ground… travel.

If I was prime minister I would… offer free medical to all Australian citizens and cut politicians expenses budget (outrageous how much they spend, especially on travel)

If I won $1 million on the lottery I would… travel to all those places that I have on my bucket list, too many to list here.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be… Brad Pitt (why the hell not!)

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Mongolia in more recent times and travelling by car across the USA West to East via the deep south finishing in NY.

My favourite holiday was… travelling through South America for 4 months, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and of course spending my birthday in Bhutan and on the Great Wall of China.
