Path now clear for NDC implementation: IATA
By admin

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) can now begin the voluntary implementation of the New Distribution Capability for airline product, as the US Department of Transportation gave its foundation document the all-clear.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed the final approval of Resolution 787 which forms the basis of the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data transmission standard.

“This is a very exciting development for air travellers, airlines, intermediaries, and for competition,” IATA’s director general and chief executive Tony Tyler said.

“Since Resolution 787 was adopted by the Passenger Services Conference, IATA has emphasised that NDC will be a voluntary standard and that no passenger will be required to divulge personal information to receive an offer. We are pleased to reaffirm those commitments.”

With the "path now clear", IATA will now begin working with stakeholders on the next phase of implementing the NDC, with the travel industry to start defining how to best use the new platform.

“This will enable travel sellers and consumers to have access to all of an airline’s products and offerings and to compare the full value of the product offer, not just the base fare,” Tyler said.
