Qantas slips in punctuality stakes
By admin

Tiger Airways and Virgin Australia were more punctual than Qantas in June, as the Flying Kangaroo fell into third place for both departures and arrivals.

The latest government figures showed Tiger topped the tables for departures, with 86.7% of services taking off on time. Virgin Australia was next in line at 86.3%, followed by Qantas at 86.2% and Jetstar at 78.3%.

Virgin Australia took the podium for arrivals, with 83.9% of its services on schedule. Tiger followed with 83.7%, then Qantas with 83.5% and Jetstar at 77.8%.

However, for the 12 months to June, Qantas remained the most punctual airline with 84.4% of departures and 83.4% of arrivals on time as scheduled.

Qantas Domestic chief executive Lyell Strambi said the performance was "remarkable" considering the disruptions caused by industrial action towards the end of last year.

Meanwhile, Regional Express led the regional carriers for both on time departures and arrivals with 84.8% and 82.2% respectively.

Meanwhile QantasLink once again had the highest level of cancellations, with 3.7% of its scheduled services cancelled. Skywest had the lowest rate of cancellations with 0.2%.

Cancellations were highest on the Canberra-Sydney route, with 4.8% of scheduled services suspended.
