SAA, Virgin extend codeshare to Sydney

SAA, Virgin extend codeshare to Sydney
By admin

South African Airways (SAA) has extended its codeshare on Virgin Australia's domestic services to include Sydney as it seeks to continue servicing the NSW market beyond the end of its codeshare with Qantas.

The new codeshare between the two airlines launched last month, enabling SAA passengers to fly with Virgin Australia from Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide to connect to its Perth-Johannesburg service.

Qantas will withdraw from its long term codeshare arrangement with SAA on flights between Australia and Johannesburg from May 31. The Flying Kangaroo will continue to operate its own Sydney-Johannesburg service.

As a result, the new extension is a “logical expansion” of SAA’s relationship with Virgin, according to country manager Australasia Tim Clyde-Smith.

“This means our customers travelling from Australia’s largest city can now reach the African continent using one ticket via our Australian entry port of Perth,” he said.

“We have had a tremendous response since we first announced our new relationship with Virgin Australia in early February whereby SAA places its code onto Virgin Australia’s flights connecting with SAAs operation out of and into Perth.

“This new development greatly enhances our ability to serve our loyal customers and work with our travel partners in New South Wales.”

Tickets are on sale immediately for travel from June 1 subject to regulatory approval.
