Beer and Bratwurst at the world's biggest fair

Beer and Bratwurst at the world's biggest fair
By admin

For 202 years, with only a fewintervals due to war and cholera outbreaks, a rowdy fair has taken place annually from late September to early October in Bavaria, Germany.

""

Oktoberfest traces its origins to 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Bavaria in Munich. The fields where the citizens celebrated the wedding became known as Theresienwiese (Therese's Meadow).

""

These fields are the home of this colossal fair – the world's biggest – with over 5,000,000 annual visitors.

""

Oktoberfest is renowned for its vast quantities of beer, German costumes and mouth-watering roast pork, sausages, grilled fish, sauerkraut & pretzels.

""

Some 7,000,000 litres of beer is served each year and only a select few local brewers are allowed to produce it. This strong beer contains around 6% alcohol, which proves too strong for some.

""

The prone figures that lie about the fields have even gained the local name bierleichen (beer corpses).

""

If you want to join in the party, Contiki Holidays has a six-day Oktoberfest package from $699.
