Asia is a continent that Australians just can't get enough of at present – the proliferation of itineraries offered by tour operators and the recent spike in airline services is clearly testament to that.

And with so much buzz in the market, it comes as little surprise that established operator Trafalgar has dipped its toe in the water with the mid July announcement that it will launch into China, Japan and Vietnam.

The new program will see eight itineraries launched with a commencement date of April 2013 slated. The tours will run for between nine and 18 days and five extension offers will also be available.

But what gives these tours that extra something? According to Trafalgar, it's a combination of integral features known as Local Specialties and Unique Insights. In addition to seeing the sights, these experiences take guests into cultural realms they usually wouldn't otherwise venture into.

On the 10-day Splendours of Japan, for instance, guests are privy to a Unique Insight with a visit to a local Japanese farm in Matsumoto – famous for its wasabi production. Here they will learn all about the cultivation of wasabi, before enjoying a lunch of soba noodles with the condiment. Undoubtedly, this is one occasion where less is more.

The Be My Guest dining experience on the 10-day Highlights of Vietnam, by contrast, takes guests to a Vietnamese herb farm located in a rural village outside of Hoi An. Guests have the chance to interact with the farmers, including the owner, and will learn about traditional gardening techniques. They'll also have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and join the farmers in the fields before sitting down to an authentic lunch of rural cuisine.

Trafalgar managing director Matt Cameron-Smith is enthusiastic about the operator's entry into Asia and particularly so regarding the impact of the signature experiences, saying they "firmly believe in putting the customer at the heart of everything we do".

The 10-day Highlights of Vietnam tour is priced from $2750 (land only). For more information, visit www.trafalgar.com
