‘A seafood mecca’ – New York Times lists Sydney as the 10th best place to visit in 2025

‘A seafood mecca’ – New York Times lists Sydney as the 10th best place to visit in 2025

The New York Times has revealed the 52 best places to travel to in 2025 and two Australian destinations have made the list.

The annual list highlights the top travel destinations for the year ahead.

Coming in at No. 10 was Sydney which the NYT describes as a “seafood mecca” and an also crediting an “expanded Metro”.

The Sydney Fish Market was heralded as a particular point of attraction with the NYT stating: “Seafood lovers have long flocked to the Sydney Fish Market, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, where fishermen auction off a marine smorgasbord to retailers, and hungry customers snack on fresh oysters and prawns”.

The NYT noted the opening of the new and improved fish market this year which it said will double the annual number of tourists that visit the hot destination.

The Sydney Metro was also highlighted as another reason to visit, with the American publication noting that the expanding transport system makes it easier to travel to Sydney and beyond.

The NYT recommended guests check out the recently-refurbished Sofitel Sydney Wentworth and the Museum of Contemporary Art with its “glittering” harbour views.

Sydney was not the only Australian destination on the list: coming in at No. 42 was Western Australia which it celebrated for its EV highway which will be completed this year.

The highway “will knit together 110 fast-charging electric vehicle stations along 4,350 miles of some of Western Australia’s most scenic roads”, it noted.

“Eco-conscious road-trippers can choose among a variety of routes, with the distance between charging stations averaging around 100 miles.”

The Kalbarri National Park Skywalk, Fitzgerald River National Park, and Coral Coast Highway were named as particular points of attraction.
