Agents jump on changes in European rail tickets

Aussie travel agents are stepping up to support travellers on the railroads in Europe.

International Rail boss Jonathon Hume has said that agents are now recognising the financial advantages to their clients of instant purchase point-to-point rail tickets in Europe.

Hume said it was in the best interests of Aussie travellers that many European rail operators now offer these tickets, which are often better value than traditional Rail Passes.

“Most trains open bookings three months in advance so it is best for Australians to book tickets prior to departure as they will often be more expensive closer to the day of travel,” he said.

“An added bonus is that travelers will not endure stress and waste time waiting in queues or struggling with language difficulties.”

Hume emphasised the importance of agents using this strategy by pointing to cheap Eurostar fares that can take travellers from London to Paris from $80.

“In Europe they can take advantage of cheap fares of from $46 in first class from Venice to Rome or $105 from Frankfurt to Berlin, also in first class,” he said.

Hume also added that most of the tickets are electronic so the traveler simply prints the tickets at home before travel and on arrival simply board the train and finds their seats.
