An event producer’s take on Alma Resort – the ultimate MICE destination
The state-of-the-art Alma Resort has been rapidly gaining recognition for its world-class facilities and is now turning its focus to attract the Australian market, a key player in the global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. Rebecca Perrier reports.
Nestled along Vietnam’s picturesque southern coastline, the vibrant Alma Resort in Cam Ranh stands as a beacon for travellers seeking not only luxury and relaxation but also the perfect setting for corporate gatherings and events.
As an event producer, I had the privilege of exploring this remarkable location, and my experience at Alma Resort was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, the warm and attentive team made my stay unforgettable. They went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my visit was seamless and enjoyable. From personalised greetings to the thoughtful details that made each day special, their dedication to excellence shone through.
A gem worth discovering
Cam Ranh is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, serene beaches, and lush landscapes. With golden sandy shores stretching across the South China Sea, the region is an idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. During my trip, I was captivated by the vibrant energy and rich culture that define this area. One of the highlights for me was exploring the local markets, where the air was filled with the fragrant aromas of fresh produce, street food, and the sounds of lively bargaining. The markets were brimming with unique handicrafts, colourful fabrics, and an abundance of local flavours that spoke to the region’s traditions.
I believe that for me, what truly made this trip memorable, was the kindness of the local people. Their welcoming smiles, warm conversations, and genuine hospitality added an extra layer of connection to my visit.
An unparalleled venue for events, meetings and gatherings
I was delighted to explore the resort’s event facilities and was genuinely impressed by what I saw. The spaces are thoughtfully designed, combining modern elegance with functional versatility to cater to a wide range of events, from high-profile conferences to intimate gatherings. The combination of stunning outdoor surroundings, exceptional facilities including a grand ballroom that can accommodate 300 guests, and a team committed to impeccable service makes it an unparalleled choice for hosting MICE events.
Spread over a sprawling 30-hectare property with 580 oversized suites and pavilions, the resort is designed to offer both comfort and a touch of opulence. For the Australian market, the resort’s MICE offerings are a standout feature, setting the stage for everything from intimate team-building activities to large-scale conferences and incentive programs. Imagine hosting a beachside banquet under the stars or a team-building activity with the ocean as your backdrop! These are the kind of experiences that elevate any event to something truly memorable.
For smaller or more exclusive meetings, Alma Resort offers meeting rooms equipped with the latest technology, customisable layouts, and natural light making it an ideal setting for workshops, seminars, or executive board meetings.
Post-meeting activity and relaxation at Alma Resort
What makes Alma Resort truly exceptional is that it goes beyond just being a venue for business. After a day of productive activities, I found myself drawn to the resort’s diverse dining options, which showcase an impressive blend of international and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. For moments of relaxation, the resort’s luxurious spa is a must-visit. I indulged in rejuvenating treatments that left me feeling refreshed and recharged, ready for whatever came next.
For leisure, the resort features an extensive selection of recreational options, including 12 swimming pools, a waterpark, 13-treatment room spa, 70-seat cinema, an amphitheatre, an Art Gallery, a Science Museum, a yoga room, 18-hole mini golf course, a youth centre with virtual reality games, a kid’s club and water sports centre.
For incentive trips, Alma Resort is offering tailored packages that include private excursions to the nearby Nha Trang region. Having experienced these excursions firsthand, I can attest to how these activities offer a perfect blend of adventure and discovery – ideal for strengthening team bonds.
Sustainability and authenticity – a commitment to the future
One of the most inspiring aspects of my visit to Alma Resort was witnessing their deep commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. I was particularly impressed by their on-site farming initiative, where the resort grows its own fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
In addition to its farming efforts, Alma Resort runs a tree-planting program that invites guests to participate in eco-friendly activities that benefit the local environment. I loved that this wasn’t just a passive activity; guests are invited to get involved and make a tangible impact. Each participant receives a personalised sign to mark their tree, creating a meaningful connection between visitors and the resort’s environmental efforts. As I left, I felt a special sense of pride knowing that my tree would continue to grow, and I can’t wait to return one day to see how it has flourished.
Alma Resort is also pioneering what is believed to be Vietnam’s most ambitious hotel solar power project. This initiative, as explained to me by Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, named “Vietnam’s Best General Manager” at the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2024, underscores the resort’s commitment to renewable energy and carbon reduction. This project aims to harness the abundant sunlight in the region to power a significant portion of the resort’s energy needs, contributing to a greener future while maintaining a world-class guest experience.
European influence (and food)
One of the most captivating aspects of Vietnam as a whole, is the French influence that weaves through its culture, architecture, and cuisine. Having been under French colonial rule in the 19th and 20th centuries, the country absorbed a rich blend of French style and sophistication that still resonates today, even at Alma Resort where you can find a French bakery. As a French tourist, I found this subtle yet powerful influence added an extra layer of charm to the experience.
I had the chance to have dinner with Executive Chef Ingo Stöneberg, whose impressive culinary background brings an international flair that perfectly complements the resort’s unique blend of Vietnamese and European influences. During our conversation, we discussed the food strategy at the resort, and I was fascinated by Chef Stöneberg’s vision and dedication to elevating Alma’s dining experience. His expertise and exemplary leadership have been instrumental in positioning Alma as one of Vietnam’s leading culinary destinations.
A personal touch
One of the most memorable parts of my stay at Alma Resort was participating in a Vietnamese cooking class, which gave me a deeper appreciation for the local culture and culinary traditions. Guided by one the resort’s expert Chefs, I learned to prepare dishes like fresh spring rolls. Tailored experiences are a key part of Alma Resort’s approach to MICE tourism.
The resort’s team is adept at curating activities that cater specifically to the needs and interests of each group by partnering with local boutique travel agencies like Zazen Travel. Christina Nguyen, the creator and founder of this tour operator, is going above and beyond to ensure “her guests are not only taken on a trip but a journey of the heart”.
An investment in memorable events
For the Australian market, which increasingly values seamless travel experiences and well-rounded destinations, resorts like Alma Resort in Cam Ranh or Saigon Prince Hotel in Ho Chi Minh are poised to become a go-to choice for MICE events.
As the travel industry continues to recover and expand, Alma Resort is ready to lead the charge, offering a taste of Vietnamese luxury combined with world-class event capabilities. The result? A venue that not only meets the needs of MICE but also provides a memorable experience for every attendee. An investment worth making for any event – if you want my opinion.
