Linkd Tourism hosted an immersive culinary event in Sydney to promote the allure of Vibrant Arizona which showcased the state’s flavours and wonders. Kelly Malkin went along.

Guests at the event explored authentic Mexican cuisine, crafting “drunken chicken” (named for its use of beer as an ingredient), a hearty chilli recipe, zesty guacamole and pulled pork empanadas. The experience was not just about the food, it served as an enticing gateway to the rich culture, history and attractions of Arizona, all against the backdrop of the upcoming centenary of Route 66 in 2026.

Arizona, known for its stunning landscapes and diverse experiences, including skiing and wine tours, is a dream destination for travellers. Flagstaff, perched at an elevation of 2100m (7,000ft), stands out as a hub for adventure and discovery. Home to the Lowell Observatory, where Pluto was first discovered, the city offers a unique astro-tourism experience. Visitors can stargaze under pristine dark skies from open-air heated seating, a must for astronomy buffs and rookie stargazers alike.

For athletes and fitness travellers, Flagstaff’s high-altitude environment is legendary. Training at elevations of 2100m to 3650m is said to enhance bucket-list experience, offering breathtaking views along the way.

History buffs can enjoy a nostalgic trip along Route 66, celebrating its centenary in 2026. Williams, a charming town along the historic route, offers unique experiences like the Polar Express during winter and vibrant line dancing events.

Flagstaff also caters to those who appreciate Americana, with attractions like Starlite Lanes, the oldest bowling alley in the US, and the retro-inspired Americana Motor Hotel.

Whether you’re captivated by the stars, history, or flavours, Vibrant Arizona has something for everyone. With its mix of culinary delights, outdoor adventures, and historic charm, it is a destination that promises unforgettable memories.
