ATEC celebrates industry excellence with annual awards

The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) has announced the winners of its prestigious annual awards, recognising exceptional contributions from across our tourism export industry.

These awards, announced during ATEC’s annual Meeting Place event last Wednesday, highlight individuals, businesses, and partnerships which have shown outstanding leadership, dedication, and innovation in promoting Australian tourism.

Captain Trevor Haworth Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Tourism Export Industry: Garry Burns (feature image)

Garry Burns has led innovations in high-value international markets, including China and India, and has been instrumental in product development for Australian destinations.

Outstanding Contribution by an Individual Award: Scott Alderson
As ATEC WA Chair and an ELITE mentor, Scott Alderson has championed WA’s presence at industry events and consistently stepped up to support ATEC’s initiatives.

Len Taylor Young Australian Tourism Export Council Award for Leadership: Josh Basir
With nearly a decade in Tourism Export, Josh Basir has been a driving force at Journey Beyond and an active YATEC SA member, sharing his industry insight and experience.

ATEC Region of the Year: NSW
The NSW branch has been awarded ATEC Branch of the Year for its leadership and dedication to supporting the tourism industry.

This year’s member-voted awards set a new record, with over 320 organisations casting votes to support their favourite nominees across these categories.

ATEC Chair, Denis Pierce, congratulated the award winners and nominees.

“Many of these awards carry even more weight because they’re voted on by peers—they truly mean something in our industry,” Pierce said.

“Each our nominees have shown tremendous dedication and drive, helping to set the standard for our industry and inspiring all of us with your achievements.

“The commitment of award winners to excellence and innovation, leadership and mentoring continues to strengthen our tourism community and reinforces Australia’s position on the global stage.
