Travel agents gathered this week to attend Treasures of the South Pacific, a series of events designed to educate and inspire Australian travel agents about the variety of tourism product and experiences available across the South Pacific.
The South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) and Pacific Trade Invest, Australia sponsored the events, hosting over 65 travel agents in Maroochydore on Tuesday 17 April, and 85 travel agents in Brisbane the following evening.
Agents were inspired by the culture, nature, creativity and adventurous spirit that the South Pacific has to offer as they gained knowledge and insights from tourism office representatives including the Cook Islands, Fiji, Norfolk Island, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tahiti, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and the Hidden Treasures of the Pacific.
The next Treasures of the South Pacific events will take place in the following locations: Sydney, Tuesday 16 October, 2018 and Wollongong, Wednesday 17 October, 2018.

The race to the finish line on the “A Very Merry Toy Story Land Christmas Mega-Fam” has commenced with only three weeks left for agents to register for a chance to win their way to Walt Disney World Resort.

Brooke will get to experience six magical nights’ accommodation at Walt Disney World Resort where she will visit all four incredible Theme Parks and be one of the first to visit Buzz, Woody and the entire Toy Story team at the all new Toy Story Land. There are still nine spots up for grabs on the Famil and to be in with a chance at winning, agents must make a new profile on wheredreamscometrue.com.au and register any eligible Disney Destinations, Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines bookings that fit the competitions criteria listed on the terms and conditions on the site. Tale of two Asian cities
Seventeen travel agents from Sydney’s inner north-west were recently briefed on the latest Macao-Xiamen “Two Cities, One Fare” campaign at a special workshop dinner at North Ryde.
The Macao Government Tourism Office and Xiamen Airlines teamed up with leading Asian specialist Helen Wong’s Tours to spread the news of the promotion, including the unveiling of a special agents Xiamen Air return fare deal and accompanying free hotel stay in Xiamen en route to Macao. Guests were informed of the latest developments in Macao, including the opening of the new luxurious Morpheus Hotel and the impending opening of the Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao road link which will draw larger tourist numbers across the Greater Bay Area on China.
It was appropriate the agents were treated to a lavish Chinese banquet at the House of Tong restaurant as Macao continued to celebrate the Year of Gastronomy.
Xiamen, on China’s south-east Pacific coast, is popular for its beaches, tree-lined paths, colonial villas and attractions such as UNESCO World Heritage listed Gulangyu Island and the historic Hakka architecture.
In contrast, Macao is famous for Portuguese-meets-Chinese characteristics and a Macanese cuisine which is among one of the world’s earliest forms of fusion food. It is also well known for its UNESCO World Heritage listed sites and extravagant contemporary integrated resorts, in particular on the Cotai district between the Macao islands of Taipa and Coloane.

Vanuatu’s annual two-day travel industry event, Tok Tok, has welcomed 50 buyers across seven countries, including Australia, to discover the South Pacific Island’s latest and greatest offerings.
Now in its 16th year, Tok Tok is showcasing 53 local sellers – including eight new operators – across a range of boutique and mid-level accommodation offerings, fresh touring options and locally owned products, all available for face-to-face meetings. Tok Tok will officially launch on the morning of Thursday 30 August followed by a buyers’ function, featuring live local entertainment at the beautiful Port Vila Seafront Precinct. The event will round-out with a spectacular Gala dinner tomorrow evening (Friday 31 August) at this year’s host venue, Warwick Le Lagon.
Pre-famils also coincided with the event, providing the opportunity for wholesalers to experience Vanuatu’s distinct offerings firsthand, including swimming in the breathtaking natural blue holes on Espiritu Santo and a once-in-a-lifetime experience on Tanna Island’s Mt Yasur – one of the world’s most accessible volcanoes. Attendees were also treated to exclusive site visits through Vanuatu’s newest boutique accommodation offerings, Rockwater Resort and Black Pearl Resort, located on Tanna and Espiritu Santo respectively.
