Bonza launches agent portal for first time

Bonza has launched its travel agent portal today and is welcoming agents to register now in preparation for flights going on sale.

Travel agents will be the only non-direct way to book with the airline taking an ‘app first’ approach.

“This is a really exciting day for Bonza as we invite travel agents to register with us. The importance and value of local travel agents shouldn’t be understated, especially in recent times – afterall, agents are often the heartbeat of a community,” Carly Povey, chief commercial officer at Bonza said.

“We fully understand some customers will prefer to book through a friendly and trusted face at a local travel agency and we want to support the travel trade community by investing in this portal.”

Agents who register from today will be asked to enter their details in the registration page and activate their account via a confirmation email. Once logged in, agents can view Bonza’s frequently asked questions, terms and conditions and the privacy policy.

Travel agents will be required to ensure their clients have the Fly Bonza app downloaded to their mobile phones in order to enjoy the full Bonza experience including check-in and ordering food and drinks, from the app, when travelling.

Also in the interest of the customer experience, Bonza will require agents to share their customer contact details with the airline purely for communicating if, and when, travel plans change – such as delays due to weather.

“We know travel plans change and our app-first strategy will allow us to send notifications, SMS updates to customers directly in real time to minimise disruption. For that reason, we look forward to working with agents to provide a seamless experience,” Povey added.

The low-cost carrier has 27 routes on its initial map spanning 17 destinations. Ninety-three per cent of our routes are not currently served by any airline and 96 per cent not currently served by a low-cost carrier.

“By helping agents get clients from A to B without the C (cost and complexity), we hope to encourage more Aussies to explore their backyard,” Povey concluded.

Povey told Travel Weekly that Bonza will not be giving commission, but encourages agents to add on their own service fee. She said that considering the low prices of Bonza flights and the important role that travel agents will play in the airline’s operations, this would not be an issue.

“Travel agents are the heart beat of the community,” Povey said.

The portal was made by an inhouse team alongside its tech partner 777 Partners.
