Chilean-Brazilian carrier LATAM Airlines unveils additional flights from Melbourne
Edited by Travel Weekly

Christopher Ellis, Country Manager – Oceania at LATAM Airlines, has revealed the Chilean-Brazilian carrier will add an additional flight to its direct weekly services from Melbourne.

This is in addition to its four direct services from Sydney-Santiago, from 28 October onwards.

“In less than a year, LATAM Airlines has increased its services by 40 per cent in the region and will be operating 14 weekly flights by December!” Ellis (pictured) posted.

“Today, I am delighted to announce that starting December 4th, we will add an additional flight, increasing to 4 direct weekly services ex Melbourne operating on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday in addition to our 4 direct services from Sydney – Santiago from 28 October onwards.”

Two months ago, LATAM revealed it would offer 3,900 seats per week on flights between Australia to Latin America – totalling more than 200,000 seats a year open to business and leisure travellers.

All LATAM Airlines flights between Australia and Chile are operated on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

“South America has never been closer,” Ellis said. “We look forward to welcoming you on board.”

    Reconnecting Australia with South America

Just nine months ago, it resumed the Melbourne to Santiago direct service, reconnecting Australia with the largest network in South America.

In September 2023, LATAM Airlines restarted Melbourne – Santiago direct flights three times weekly. With the addition of the Sydney – Santiago four weekly direct flights, LATAM is pleased to offer daily direct flights between Australia and Latin America from October.

LATAM launched direct flights between Sydney and Santiago in 2019 and paused the services due to the pandemic.

LATAM then resumed operations from Sydney to Santiago via Auckland in March 2022 with three weekly services and quickly scaled up to daily flights by December 2022.

This reintroduced direct flights to Latin America, enabling up to 1,200 passengers per week to enjoy travelling directly from Sydney in under 13 hours.

    Recent awards

Onboard Hospitality awarded LATAM as Best Sustainability On Board, for the second consecutive year, on this occasion for the implementation of the Recycle your trip program in the Brazilian domestic market, for recycling 114 tons of PET bottles during the 2023.

PAX International Magazine also awarded the group with the Outstanding Food Service by a Carrier for South America 2024 for the Flavors that transport program.

LATAM was awarded Best Airline in South America and Best Airline Staff in South America at the 2023 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
