The mostly car-free seaside town of Las Catalinas in Costa Rica has announced several developments slated for completion this year and until 2025.

Already a popular Central Amercian destination for its highly walkable neighborhoods, the developments underway are set to make the town even more attractive than ever to anyone looking to invest in a slice of this waterfront haven.

“I don’t think that people fully appreciate yet just how transformative these developments are going to be,” Las Catalinas’ founder Charles Brewer said. “The main street improvements plus the gracious new buildings of La Rambla will create a world-class main street experience, and a very dramatic contrast to what we have had in the past.

“The park adds an important element that has not been available before, a beautiful manicured green counterpoint to the intricate urbanism of town. It will for sure be another important destination within town.

“And Lantana, with its beauty, drama, and elegance, will be the coolest thing that we or anybody else has built in a long time. Like centuries! Taken together, these developments will make living at Las Catalinas better than ever.”

New commercial and residential centre: La Rambla

The new beachside commercial centre, set to open in the second quarter of 2025, features more than 6,000sqm of space across five buildings along Calle Las Catalinas. It is set to be Costa Rica’s first beachside commercial centre, providing the town with a dynamic mix of services, dining options, offices, retail spaces, and well-living residences. All of which are designed to change the way people live, work, and enjoy life.

New main road beautification

The project to beautify the main road that connects Beach Town and El Prado in Las Catalinas features wide shady sidewalks, trees, and planters. It also includes parallel parking spaces and crosswalks along the street, lined by pleasing building facades. It is set for completion in December 2024.

New Stair Street district

Lantana, the first stair district overlooking the ocean, features houses built onto the side of a hill. It is especially attractive to those seeking a more active lifestyle with easy access to hiking and biking experiences.

Parque Central in El Prado

Las Catalinas continues the tradition of having three essential things: salon comunal (communal lounge), iglesia (chuch), and a cancha de futbol (plaza). The Parque Central (Central Park) in El Prado is the heart of play where kids can safely run around, families can picnic, athletes can train, and communities can join together. It features three tennis courts, a rollable sidewalk circuit, regulation soccer field, children’s playground, and plenty of green spaces set to open by the end of August 2024.
