Ten-part food-focused documentary series Food Trail: South Africa returns to Network 10 for another season of cuisine and dramatic landscapes.

Presented by South African Tourism and starring South African-born Australian chef Warren Mendes, the series continues its exploration of the country through travel, cultural experiences, recipes and the people behind them.

With Mendes as guide, viewers will embark on a journey through South Africa to discover the country’s culinary history.

Forged from its role in the Spice Trade – a conduit to new flavours, and the multiculturalism that led to it becoming known as ‘Rainbow Nation’, few countries have such strong yet diverse cultural influences in food – with incredible Indian cuisine in Durban, a heavy Malaysian presence in Cape Town, hearty Dutch and German traditional cooking and of course a fascinating native food culture.

Led by the friends Warren has made along the way, this time Food Trail: South Africa ventures even deeper to discover the country’s hidden gems, offering an insider’s look to experiencing the destination like a local.

From the best place to get a snack in Johannesburg as recommended by Mogau Seshoene aka the Lazy Makoti, to where to find the best oysters in the world, according to South Africa’s most experienced 80-year-old oyster shucker, Warren will take the viewer off the beaten tourist path to share the unique experiences and connections that make travel truly special.

Marketing and communications manager for South African Tourism Australasia, Yana Shvarts said this has been an exciting series for her team to be involved with.

“There’s such a depth and richness to South Africa’s cuisine, culture and people, that they can’t be captured in a simple piece of advertising – it really takes something like this to take you on a journey in a way that does them justice.”

Food Trail: South Africa season 2, presented by South African Tourism and made by Projucer, premieres on Network 10 on Saturday 19 August at 4.30pm and this 10-episode series will screen weekly at the same time.
