Design Hotels unveils Southside by Ovolo in Hong Kong

Design Hotels has unveiled the newly transformed Southside by Ovolo, a quintessential designer hotel nestled in the heart of the vibrant cultural district Wong Chuk Hang.

The new hotel, Hong Kong’s first warehouse-converted hotel, is a r[evolution] and a testament to Ovolo’s commitment to providing an unparalleled experience that captures the essence of Hong Kong’s dynamic culture and lifestyle.

This transformation is designed to elevate the guest experience and offer a unique blend of designer luxury, comfort, and distinctive design. All of which are just moments away from the heart of Hong Kong’s business, dining, and shopping precincts via MTR or taxi. It is also just a short walk from the famed Ocean Park and Water World theme park.

Group director of marketing for Ovolo Hotels, Stephen Howard, said: “At the core of this R[evolution] is a change in ethos and branding to reflect the desires of the hotel’s guests, coupled with new experiences. ‘Your New Local’ positioning and branding was developed by the in-house Ovolo marketing and brand team to reflect the cultural hub of Wong Chuk Hang and to pay homage to Hong Kong’s rich, dynamic, and eclectic heritage across many facets of life.”

The hotel’s Rock Star Suites are an homage to legendary music figures such as Freddie Mercury and John Lennon. These designer suites, overlooking the south-side beaches and mountains, feature a built-in bar, custom artwork, and breathtaking views for a perfect sanctuary for guests seeking both work and play.

Complementing the Rock Star Suites is the introduction of the Flat Iron Deluxe, a premium steakhouse with a focus on the “Flat Iron” cut. The restaurant offers not only top-quality steaks but also one of the best club sandwiches in Hong Kong, weekend brunches, cooking classes, and a dedicated kids’ menu.

A further addition to the Southside experience are the B. Duck-themed rooms that offer a playful retreat complete with a play tent and children’s favourite elements.

Southside by Ovolo has also introduced the Ovolo Standard and Essentials when guests book direct. The Ovolo Standard is a promise that gives guests freedom and flexibility from the outset. Guests can enjoy a carefree stay with up to 15 per cent discount on top of a price match guarantee, with flexible cancellations, check-in/check-out times. They also offer a round of drinks at the Apero Hour.

The public spaces and arrival experience has been reimagined, with the reception now located on the original third floor, providing a more welcoming and seamless check-in process in an inviting and comfortable environment. There has also been the introduction of the Wonder Bar in the lounge alongside a pool table and bar. This a unique concept that allows guests to purchase curated items for their rooms, has also been added, enhancing the overall comfort and convenience of the stay with a twist.

Southside also has numerous and versatile event spaces for every occasion including a large format multi-purpose space G.i.G which can be used for product launches, gala dinners, seminars and more; Above rooftop overlooking the scenic views of Hong Kong’s south, offering an indoor-outdoor option for more intimate cocktail events, dinners and meetings; and The Terrace for outdoor events.

Ovolo Hotels was also one of the first hotel collections across Hong Kong and Australia to be dog friendly with its VIPooch experience. Guests’ pets get a doggy bag full of treats, toys and fluffy beds whilst also having a team on hand to assist.
