Emirates cans flight between Singapore and Melbourne

Emirates is planning to end its once-a-day flight between Singapore and Melbourne after nearly 30 years of running the route.

The Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) put out a statement on Aug 8 stating that Emirates had requested to terminate its operation of the route.

According to The Straits Timesthe airline has said that it will know the exact date of termination once it has received its response from the CCCS.

Emirates has been running the route since 1996 on its wide-body Boeing 777s. It had a three year break from 2020 due to Covid.

The termination will mean that Emirates will not be flying its own planes between Singapore and Australia, however it will be offering a codeshare flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Brsibane.

This comes as Emirates is making a substantial push to increase its partnership offering. The airline has doubled the number of cities it offers beyond its own network, now offering travel opportunities to nearly 1,700 additional cities.

The airline will continue to connect Australia to Dubai with four daily flights.

The Singapore to Melbourne pathway is already overcrowded with Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Jetstar, Scoot and Turkish Airlines running the route.
