Spring is the best time for a journey through the agricultural heartland of Cowra in NSW to witness the golden fields of canola transform the landscape with five unique tours and experiences.

“We ask that our visitors be mindful that canola fields are on private property and are not to be entered. The best way to capture the best shot is by booking a Canola Tour,” Cowra tourism manager, Kurt Overzet, said.

The season runs from August to October 2024 (crop depending), making now the perfect time to plan a visit.

Cowra’s canola season experiences:

  • Fields of Gold Tours
A two-hour guided bus tour with photo stops at canola hot spots and a historical town tour. It runs on weekends from 9am to 4pm from the Cowra Visitor Information Centre, costing $55 per person.
  • Sunset Canola Tour
A unique tour to see the canola when the sun sets and finishes with a glass of Antonio’s Prosecco. It runs from 27 September to 6 October, costing $65 per person.
  • Canola Balloon Flight
A magical trip that takes guests up in a hot air balloon at sunrise for a bird’s eye view of the canola fields and the Belubula Valley. It costs $340 with Balloon Joy Flights and includes a champagne breakfast.
  • Scenic Canola Flights
Fly Oz offers a dazzling view of the canola from a plane and flies over Wyangala Dam and Canowindra costing $195 per person for 30 minutes.
  • Twilight Dinner in the Canola
Held on 7 September at Glencara, Home of the Rustic Maze, it features a local food, wine and beer, and dancing as the sun sets. It costs $160 per person.

Guests can complete their time in Cowra with a visit to the Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre, which comes alive with colour during spring. The Garden will also hold its annual Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom) Festival on 28 September.
