G Adventures comes out in support of the voice to parliament
Edited by Travel Weekly

As Aussies gear up to have their say in the upcoming referendum on an Indigenous voice to parliament, companies across the travel space have come out in support of the change.

G Adventures has recently voiced its support alongside Qantas, which revealed its stance through its ‘Yes’ livery, and Intrepid.

Discussing the company’s move was the managing director, G Adventures Oceania, Sean Martin who gave insight to the decision in the below statement:

“At G Adventures, we believe in the power of unity, diversity, and fair representation. As a global travel company that thrives on connecting people from around the world, we know firsthand the importance of ensuring that every voice is heard and that every section of community is represented,” Martin wrote.

“Australia’s cultural makeup is woven from a multitude of meaningful threads, each embodying the richness of its First Nations, immigrant communities, and the diverse population that calls Australia home. In celebrating this diversity, we firmly stand for recognising and honouring each individual perspective.

“We believe that a nation’s strength lies in its ability to listen, learn and grow together. By casting our vote in favour of the Voice to Parliament on 14 October 2023, we express our belief that acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of this land and empowering their voices will contribute to a more inclusive Australia.

“Why? Because First Nations people requested this and we support them in having permanent representation in the Australian Constitution. Because we believe they have a right to have input and a voice on federal government, decisions, and policies that affect their lives. And because we know this will lead to better outcomes across social and wellbeing matters for First Nations people.

“With over 30 years’ experience as a global tourism provider, with over 100 indigenous experiences, we’ve witnessed firsthand the detrimental consequences that come from silencing First Nations voices on matters that affect them, their communities, and their heritage.

“Our commitment to responsible travel surpasses the tours we facilitate. It encompasses the principles of equity and social justice, prioritising respect for and mutual benefit with First Nations communities in the destinations we serve. This can only be achieved by giving those who call these destinations home, as well as the stewards of their cultures, a voice.

“Fundamentally, we believe in the right for every individual to have an opinion and to exercise their views. We don’t wish to dictate but to inspire individuals to make their voices heard when the opportunity arises.

“We are all lucky to have a voice in Australia and we encourage all to educate themselves on the many perspectives surrounding the Voice to Parliament and to use that voice. To speak with others, as we have spoken with Elders and our First Nations suppliers, to ask questions and form your own views.

“Together, let’s make our voices count, but most of all, let nothing divide us.”
