GJNZ adds new premium experiences to touring range

The new Great Journeys New Zealand (GJNZ) 23/24 touring season, starting in September 2023, will feature a number of new experiences for customers looking for a unique rail tour of New Zealand.

“We are so excited by the success of our first tours this past summer and are looking forward to a full season starting in September,” Tracey Goodall, general manager of GJNZ said.

“With an elevated onboard experience as well as some fantastic additional off-train excursions we believe our program is a brilliant way for Australians to experience a scenic rail touring holiday in New Zealand. If they’ve done The Ghan and the Rocky Mountaineer why not try Great Journeys New Zealand?”

With the new Scenic Plus experience now running on the TranzAlpine train journey, all Signature tours that include the TranzAlpine will offer this premium dining experience on board.

Scenic Plus currently includes:

  • Host service
  • Regionally inspired cuisine paired with local wine and beer
  • Private outdoor viewing carriage for Scenic Plus guests
  • Premium boarding and luggage check-in.

A new dedicated Scenic Plus seating carriage with large windows is expected to be introduced on the TranzAlpine next summer to complete the upgraded experience and the Signature Tours travelling on the TranzAlpine will also incorporate this carriage as soon as it is available.

In addition to the above, Signature tours will also include the option of an experience on the award winning Haast River safari if customers are spending time in the West Coast as well as a unique dining experience on the historic tramway restaurant when in Christchurch.

Following feedback from customers GJNZ has also implemented a number of reverse tour options for the 23/24 season for those looking to travel from South to North instead of North to South.
