Half of business travellers suffer stress and burnout with a third seeking mental health support
Edited by Travel Weekly

Almost half (47 per cent) of Australian business travellers claim frequent travel adds to their stress and burnout with a third (36%) of frequent flyers seeking mental health support to cope with the stress of work travel, a survey has found.

In addition, the survey conducted on behalf of the newly refurbished PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport of Australian found 37 per cent experienced exhaustion, 34 per cent anxiety and 32 per cent stress, with a higher proportion of women reporting these emotions.

PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport said it has implemented effective solutions to help alleviate airport anxiety, offering a variety of ways to help travellers start or end their journey on a positive note.

As the only hotel directly connected to Melbourne Airport’s terminals via an undercover pedestrian skybridge, guests can do away with early morning drives or transfers to the airport, meaning they can begin their getaway relaxed and rejuvenated. The hotel also offers a variety of packages and amenities designed to reduce airport stress.

Why travel agents are overwhelmed & 5 things that can help, including choosing suppliers

Start or finish with a swim

When stressed out, people often turn to the gym for a workout, or choose to relax in spa or sauna to let their troubles evaporate. While this is often unattainable in airport scenarios, PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport has come to the rescue with its Lounge and Swim Package. Starting from AUD$25, travellers can make use of the hotel’s indoor pool, fully equipped gymnasium, spa, sauna and Level 4 Bar Airo lounge. They can also access the hotel’s Wi-Fi and take a shower – a common desire among those travelling long distances.

    Catch up on sleep

Those yearning for an airport sleep can opt for PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport’s Short Stay Hourly Accommodation. As well as gaining access to the hotel’s facilities, guests can check into a comfortable, newly refurbished room for a few hours to nap, watch a movie, or enjoy in-room dining service. The new look rooms feature a neutral colour palette inspired by Australian landscapes and lifestyles, custom-designed furniture, plush fabrics, and modern daybeds where guests can sink in and enjoy Melbourne skyline and runway views. With prices starting at AU$109 for a three-hour pass, this service provides another stress-free solution for travellers looking to reset during lengthy stopovers or delays.

    New-look restaurant

The new-look onsite Airo Restaurant and Bar Airo provide an elevated yet convenient option for food and beverages away from the foot traffic of the airport. The restaurant’s Asian-Australian fusion menu, crafted by executive chef Jee Whan Lee, combines locally sourced produce with Southeast Asian flavours and spices. It is served in a stylish and comfortable setting, featuring neutral materials, calming colours and natural daylight. It’s the perfect spot for some snacks between flights, such as Cheesy Wagyu Meatballs or Korean Fried Chicken, or for a calming drink incorporating indigenous herbs such as lemongrass or wolfberries.

Meeting facilities offer peace and quiet

The hotel’s newly refurbished meeting facilities offer an ideal environment for business travellers to catch up on work or host meetings in a calm setting. The dedicated events floor offers 16 rooms, most of which feature natural light, individual air conditioning controls and state-of-the-art audio-visual (AV) equipment. The residential rooms, such as the 16-pax Mornington Room and 14-pax Bellarine Room, are ideal for business travellers seeking a stress-free place to work that’s free from external distractions and include meeting equipment and free bottles of Antipodes water. Additionally, the hotel’s communal workspace offers comfortable chairs with desks and Wi-Fi connectivity.
