Hawaiian Airlines waives reservation change fees amid Hurricane Lane disruptions

As Hurricane Lane weakened overnight to a Category 4 status, Hawaiian Airlines has announced it will waive reservation change fees for travel between August 21-26.

A hurricane warning is currently in effect for the island of Hawai‘i, as well as the islands of Maui, Lāna‘i and Moloka‘i.

Effective immediately, travellers holding tickets for travel on Hawaiian Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines codeshare flights departing to, from, within or via the State of Hawaii will be allowed a one–time reservation change with waiver of change fee provided that:

  • Ticket was issued on/before August 21, 2018
  • Affected flight(s) is/are originally scheduled for travel from August 21, 2018 through August 26, 2018
  • Changes must be rebooked and ticketed to new flights no later than September 9, 2018
  • New travel must commence no later than September 9, 2018

For changes made to new flights on or before September 9, any resulting difference in airfare costs will be waived – as long as guests remain in the same cabin class (First Class to First Class, Economy to Economy) and there is no change in origin and destination. For changes made to new flights after September 9, 2018, the change fee will be waived but travellers will have to pay the difference in fare costs.

George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, advised visitors to double check their travel arrangements before travelling during the hurricane.

“This is a dangerous hurricane that is a very serious threat to Hawai’i. Everyone should focus on staying safe and avoiding any situation that puts them in harm’s way,” he said.

“The state and counties are working collaboratively to bring all of our government resources to bear to protect our people and communities.”

“Visitors should heed the advice of civil defence officials, as well as our airline, hotel and tourism industry professionals as they do a consistently excellent job of taking care of guests during times of crisis.

“Visitors who have trips planned to Hawai‘i should check with their airline and accommodation providers to see if travel adjustments need to be made.”

Any changes to travellers origin or destination on Hawaiian Air flights will be processed without a change fee but may be subject to applicable fare difference – where normal refunds will apply.

All changes must be made by calling Hawaiian Airlines Reservations Res: 1300 661 339.

Forecasters from the National Weather Service expect the hurricane to continue weakening in the coming days as the massive storm completes its pass close to the Hawaiian Islands.
