If you’ve been eyeing a trip to Hong Kong, now is your chance to score a free flight thanks to a new global tourism push in the city. Just pay the fees and taxes!

The only catch is you must be a Cathay Pacific frequent flyer to be legible for the scheme.

The Cathay Pacific website saw over 100,000 hits on Thursday when the deal was launched in the United States and Canada with some waiting in online cues to get onto the site for over an hour.

There will be over 6000 free return fares offered to Australian’s in a bid to lure tourists and business travellers to the city following the lifting of COVID restrictions.

The Cathay promotion is part of a larger tourism campaign by the Airport Authority Hong Kong which includes 500,000 free flights to foreign visitors that was launched in March but is only opening to Australians at the end of the month.

But it’s not just free flights on offer!

“A variety of offers are also available through the launch of HKTB’s global integrated campaign – Hello Hong Kong – to make the holiday experience unforgettable for overseas visitors,” director, Hong Kong Tourism Board – Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific, Karen Macmillan, said.

The program will also offer vouchers for over 16,000 outlets across the city, including complimentary welcome drinks at bars and vouchers for transport, culinary, retail and local attractions.
