Hong Kong relaxes COVID restrictions for tour groups

Hong Kong has further relaxed its COVID-19 restrictions, allowing inbound tour groups access to theme parks and museums.

Hong Kong’s government announced on Monday that groups travelling with licensed travel agents will be allowed to enter designated tourist attractions including theme parks, museums and temples, and dine in the partitioned areas in designated catering premises that meet special anti-epidemic requirements.

The government said specific details around the new measures will be rolled out this month but has not specified a date.

Once the measures come into play, licensed travel agents will need to pre-register the itineraries for inbound tour groups with the Travel Industry Council and undertake strict compliance with applicable anti-epidemic measures in order to be eligible for the specific arrangements.

Inbound travellers are still subject to multiple COVID tests and are not allowed to enter bars, restaurants and certain venues for their first three days in Hong Kong.

Travellers are also required to use the LeaveHomeSafe mobile app and comply with requirements under the Vaccine Pass, as well as mandating staff to wear a mask at all times when receiving the travellers.

The government said the new arrangements can support the gradual resumption of the inbound travel market in an orderly manner and provide a more favourable business environment for the travel trade.

Hong Kong lifted its mandatory hotel quarantine for inbound travellers last month, instead asking travellers to monitor themselves for the first three days.

The destination recently partnered with Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins, landing the rugby cult figure in hot water, with some claiming the ad ignored systematic human rights abuses.
