When Maria Thuesen Bleeg from Wonderful Copenhagen suggested we stay at a restored beer factory, we couldn’t resist the idea.

Hotel Ottilia is a stylish boutique hotel that combines industrial charm with contemporary Nordic design. It features 155 rooms and suites, each designed with a sleek, industrial-chic aesthetic in a space converted from two old brewery buildings, a unique blend of classic and modern design.

A bit about Carlsberg

Carlsberg district illustrates what Barangaroo might have been if planners focused on people first. Instead of a massive casino, imagine a vibrant area where work, rest and play blend seamlessly. Peter Bur Andersen, founder and creative director of BRIQ, spearheaded this 15-year transformation from an industrial site to a lively neighbourhood for four thousand residents.

“As part of our vision to reimagine Carlsberg, every building had to incorporate a living space, a working space, and a social space,” he said.

First Impressions

Stepping into Hotel Ottilia, the blend of industrial chic and modern luxury immediately catches your eye. Housed in the historic Malt Magazines and the iconic Bottle Tower, the hotel’s restored façade with golden discs sets the tone for a unique experience. The lobby, with soaring ceilings and a mix of vintage and modern décor, gives off an uber-cool vibe.

Room

The minimalist rooms feature large round windows, exposed brick walls, concrete beams, and steel fixtures that captures the essence of history in the space. Plush bedding and elegant furniture provide comfort, while the panoramic view of Carlsberg cityscape from the window seat is mesmerising. Watching the sun set over the historic brewery buildings from the round window seat was magical.

We loved these little corners to unwind.

Added extras

The Danes do community so well and Hotel Ottilia excels in fostering one with its complementary wine hour in the lobby, a perfect time to mingle with other guests. We gratefully embraced the idea.

Time for a wine? Always!

The rooftop terrace offers stunning city views and a stylish bar for unwinding after sightseeing. The hotel also hosts events and live music, adding vibrancy to your stay and can also explore Copenhagen like a local with available bicycles.

Sustainability efforts

Hotel Ottilia is committed to eco-friendly practices, incorporating energy-efficient lighting, water-saving fixtures, and a recycling program across the property. It also uses locally sourced and organic products, supporting local businesses and reducing their carbon footprint.

Food

The hotel’s dining experience is highlighted by Tramonto Rooftop, a popular neighbourhood restaurant on premises.

Café Carls is a cosy spot for light bites and coffee. Located on the ground floor, it’s an ideal place to grab a quick breakfast or enjoy a leisurely coffee break while soaking in the ambiance of the hotel.
