Hotel review: Casa Del Mar, Santa Monica

Los Angeles’s famed beachside suburb of Santa Monica, known for ‘Muscle Beach’, skate culture, spandex touting roller bladers and its world-famous pier, is a great place to unwind within LA.

The hotel Casa Del Mar is the pick of the Santa Monica establishments and has an enviable location, right on the beach. But a little-known secret is that it’s also only 30 minutes from LAX, making it the best airport hotel that’s not at the airport for travellers with 24 hours spare between flights.

Welcome 9/10
From the moment we arrived at Casa del Mar, it was clear that this hotel embodies luxury and coastal charm. The lobby itself is a stunning blend of modern elegance and classic beachside style, with soothing ocean hues, artful décor, and expansive windows that offer panoramic views of the Pacific. It’s California, with a hefty dollop of the Mediterranean for good measure.

Rooms 9/10
Spacious, light-filled, and meticulously designed, the rooms provide the perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The room featured a king-sized bed with premium linens, a cozy sitting area with ocean views, and a marble bathroom with a deep soaking tub and rainfall shower. The subtle color palette of soft blues and whites evoked a sense of tranquility, while the modern amenities – including a Nespresso machine, high-quality toiletries, and a large flat-screen TV – ensured we had everything we needed.

Facilities 8/10
Casa del Mar offers a wealth of amenities, making it easy to relax and indulge. The outdoor pool area, located just steps from the beach, is beautifully designed, with plush lounge chairs, umbrellas, and stunning ocean views. For a more rejuvenating experience, the hotel’s wellness center offers a range of spa treatments. The hotel also has a fully equipped fitness center, although the allure of the beach made it hard to resist taking a walk along the shoreline instead. If you’re looking for entertainment, the hotel has a cozy, upscale bar, perfect for a cocktail before dinner. There’s also direct access to Santa Monica Beach, making it an ideal spot for those who want to enjoy the Pacific Ocean up close.

Dining 7/10
Dining at Casa del Mar is a casual culinary experience and the restaurant’s atmosphere is refined yet relaxed, and its oceanfront location allows guests to enjoy stunning views while dining. Nearby there is a plethora of great restaurants scattered throughout the streets of Santa Monica and a little further afield in Venice’s super cool Abbot Kinney Boulevard, which is a mecca for independent boutique shopping.

Overall 9/10
Casa del Mar is a luxury gem in the heart of Santa Monica, offering an exceptional combination of location, style, and service. From the warm welcome to the exquisite rooms and facilities, every detail is designed to ensure a memorable stay. Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, this hotel provides a tranquil yet indulgent retreat by the sea. It’s a perfect blend of relaxation and luxury, making it an ideal choice for anyone seeking a getaway on the iconic Southern California coast.
