Hotel Review: Silks Place, Taroko

Hotel Review: Silks Place, Taroko

This beautiful mountain-side hotel has something for every traveller; and in some of the most luxurious forms, no less.

Silks Place has sweeping views of the Taroko Gorge, and is the only five-star hotel within the Taroko National Park.

After guests check in, they can wait for their rooms to be made up in the expansive lobby with a warming cup of ginger tea.

Rooms: 8/10

The rooms are large and brightly lit, most with balconies and some with jaw-dropping views over the marble rock and aqua-coloured water of the Taroko Gorge.

Business suites have a larger bedroom and living area, plus an expansive bathroom featuring a standalone Victorian bathtub (with bath salts) and flanked by a walk-in wardrobe.

The mini bar is not only complementary but also includes a soothing towel facemask.

The facilities here are un-faultable. There’s a large kids club on the lowest floor, complete with tennis tables, an Xbox and a baby playroom.

On the top floor, there’s a lounge, gym and yoga room; where classes run daily. An indoor pool is a welcome neighbour to the hotels spa facilities and sauna downstairs.

On the roof, a large infinity pool lies next to three smaller hot spas. There’s also a large fire-pit with an even larger couch, and a set of pool beds perfect for when the staff put a projector-style movie on at night.

The surrounds of the hotel are absolutely stunning. There are also a small selection of shops across the road if the excellent hotel food isn’t what you’re craving (though it will be).

You can also walk two minutes to go over the Taroko Gorge via a beautiful traditional bridge, before hiking up some stairs to find a temple or two – plus a stunning view from above.

Guests would have a hard time getting bored at Silks Place. From the countless daily activities they run to the expansive grounds and nearby temples, you’ll never want to leave.
