Hundreds of Aussies travellers ‘stranded’ in Vanuatu

26 cancellations to Air Vanuatu flights destined for Australia and New Zealand have led to hundreds of stranded travellers on the popular island destination.

Outbound flights from Port Villa to Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland have all been impacted.

Air Vanuatu released a statement on their website, stating an engineering issue as the cause.

“Air Vanuatu wishes to inform guests that due to an ongoing engineering requirement on our aircraft a number our services are being impacted over the coming days,” the release said.

One passenger whose flight was scheduled to depart at 7 am Sunday, told The Daily Telegraph her flight was cancelled the day before with little detail.

“We were told not to go to the airport. Not to try to get another flight at the airport because it’s closed,” Eva Wiland, said.

Travellers are advised not to travel to the Airport and the airline says it is working to contact all guests and confirm flight details.

Those who wish to cancel their trip have been told to contact their travel agent or the Air Vanuatu office to arrange a refund.
