International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), managed by ASM Global, has been honoured at the 2024 NSW Sommelier’s Wine List Awards for its distinguished curation of premium local wines, by its food and beverage manager, sommelier, William Wilson.

The accolade reflects ICC Sydney’s continued dedication, support and knowledge of the NSW local wine industry, by serving 100 per cent local NSW wines across the venue. The awards was presented at NSW Parliament House and judged by Dane Richards, editor of News for the Food Lover and President NSW Bailliage of Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, and writer and editor Dom Sweeny,

Having facilitated the distribution of more than 400,000 bottles of local wine at events since opening in December 2016 and directing over $65 million towards NSW food and wine producers, the venue was honoured with the award in the 2024 Best NSW Wine List by a Caterer or in a Functions Venue category.

William Wilson has been instrumental in establishing the venue’s 100 per cent NSW wine list, alongside ICC Sydney CEO and group director – convention centres, ASM Global (APAC) Geoff Donaghy and ICC Sydney Director of Culinary Services, Lynell Peck.

Wilson’s industry connections and knowledge of local wines have played a key role in the venue’s contribution to regional suppliers, which in 2023/24 resulted in A$13 million in direct expenditure with NSW food and beverage suppliers.

Donaghy underscored ICC Sydney’s passionate commitment to uplifting regional communities through its celebrated food and beverage philosophy.

“ICC Sydney takes pride in celebrating the finest produce of our state. By sourcing our wine through local supply chains, we extend our impact to benefit regional NSW communities, the soon-to-retire CEO said.

“We are honoured to present our 100 per cent NSW Wine List to our delegates on a global stage, showcasing the very best that our state has to offer.”

Wilson said that he is proud to celebrate the local NSW Wine industry across ICC Sydney’s premier venues.

“We are proud to have been announced as a winner in the 2024 NSW Sommelier’s Wine List Awards amongst a total of 43 finalists, including restaurants, bars, and clubs of scale across NSW, who showcase wonderful wine lists. Whether our guests are attending a gala dinner or seeing a concert at our theatres, they can be assured they can taste the finest drops sourced from around NSW,” he said.

“Our warm congratulations go to all the other category winners and finalists. Together, we’re excited to explore new ways we can champion local producers across our global platform.”

Building on his beverage expertise, Wilsom recently earned the esteemed title of Certified Cicerone, equivalent to the Sommelier qualification in the world of beer.
