InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef has appointed a new leadership team to drive the resort’s future growth and strengthen its position as a premier destination.

Kayte Staraj has been named general manager and Jayson Heron-Smith has been appointed as director of sales and marketing. Together, they bring extensive industry experience and a shared commitment to deliver excellence to the renowned private island resort.

With two decades of hospitality leadership, Kayte Staraj steps into her new role following an 18-year tenure with Accor, where she most recently served as general manager of Sofitel Brisbane Central. Her career includes leadership positions at Novotel and Mercure Hotels at Darwin Airport, among others.

Her experience managing large-scale luxury properties and her proven ability to drive exceptional guest experiences make her well-suited to lead InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef into its next chapter.

Jayson Heron-Smith

He joins as director of sales and marketing, bringing over 25 years of experience with luxury hospitality brands such as The Langham Hospitality Group, The Star Sydney, Hilton, Crown Melbourne, and Hyatt.

His expertise lies in driving revenue growth and increasing brand awareness for luxury hospitality brands in both domestic and international markets.

Hayman Island Great Barrier Reef

Managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef reopened in 2019 after a $135 million dollar refurbishment. Nestled at the northernmost point of the Whitsunday Islands, InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef boasts 182 guest rooms, suites, villas, and residences, five restaurants and bars, 15+ event venues, and two stunning swimming pools.

This year marks a significant milestone with the resort’s name change from InterContinental Hayman Island Resort to InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef, celebrating its connection to the world-renowned Great Barrier Reef.
