InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef has revealed a brand evolution and new name.

The transition from InterContinental Hayman Island Resort to InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef marks a new chapter in the resort’s 74-year history.

“We’re thrilled to embark on this next chapter,” newly-appointed general manager, Kayte Staraj, said. “The rebrand is more than just a name change, it’s a commitment to delivering extraordinary experiences, where guests can discover luxury, relaxation and adventure at the frontier of the awe-inspiring Great Barrier Reef.”

As part of this new chapter, the resort has strengthened its partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, supporting conservation efforts to help safeguard the Reef for future generations and championing responsible tourism practices.

In celebration of the rebrand, the resort has introduced a Reef Retreat Sale where, with each guest booking, they make a donation to the Foundation to support their efforts to help restore the natural wonder through initiatives like planting baby corals through Coral IVF. Rates start at $489 per night and includes daily breakfast for two, along with reduced transfer costs of $140 per person return.

From the moment guests arrive at InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef, whether by helicopter or luxury boat, they are welcomed into a sanctuary of privacy, indulgence, romance, and adventure. Guests can dive the Great Barrier Reef, unwind in private pools, sail the Coral Sea, and savour world-class dining.

Managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef reopened in 2019, after a $135 million refurbishment. Nestled at the northernmost point of the Whitsunday Islands, it boasts 182 guest rooms, suites, villas, and residences, five restaurants and bars, over 15 event venues, and two stunning pools.

The island itself has a rich history of frontierism, exploration, and deep-sea adventure, having served as a base for early reef study expeditions in the 1920s. Led by Monty and Honora Embury, passionate advocates for ecology and natural beauty, these expeditions were careful to preserve the island’s pristine environment, leaving only a minimal footprint.
