Intrepid invites industry to sign up for Blue Dragon Marathon Walk

Intrepid Travel is once again teaming up with the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation in an effort to break the cycle of youth poverty in Vietnam, one step at a time.

Taking place on Sunday 9 October, the 7th annual Blue Dragon Marathon Walk will see Intrepid team members and travel industry partners pull on their sneakers to raise money for the Blue Dragon – a not-for-profit organisation that works to support and care for vulnerable youth in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, it is estimated that one in five children live in poverty. Too often, they are forced to leave school and look for work – often far away from home. As a result, they are at risk of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

The Blue Dragon provides care to Vietnamese children and families in crisis while creating long-term change for a better world, serving street children, kids with disabilities and survivors of human trafficking with everything they need to recover from their ordeal, stand on their own feet and achieve their dreams.

A number of businesses have already joined the cause, with APT, Chimu, Haka, RACV, Travlr, Temple Group and My Travel Group all signing up to support the Blue Dragon.

Intrepid’s general manager of sales and partnerships ANZ, Yvette Thompson, said the marathon provides a great opportunity for the travel industry to unite and give back to a much-loved country.

“Anyone who has had the privilege of travelling to Vietnam has felt the welcoming warmth of its people,” Thompson said.

“As a key destination for the Australian travel industry, this is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and walk for a cause that is close to many of our hearts.

“We thank our fellow businesses for signing up and hope many more will join us in our effort to raise $250,000 to end youth poverty in Vietnam.”

Those interested in joining the walk can sign up for a full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), or set their own distance via the Intrepid Foundation website. Registration is free and there are no geographical limits with people welcome to join from all over the globe.

Intrepid Travel will have teams walking across Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand for agents to join, and for those in other areas interested in signing up, individuals and teams can register themselves via the Blue Dragon website.
