Intrepid Travel has acquired the assets of long-term operating partner Kimberley Wild Expeditions in Western Australia.

Intrepid said it is a significant step in its 2030 Strategy, aimed at strengthening and expanding its operational capabilities in Australia.

“We are thrilled to integrate Kimberley Wild Expeditions’ assets into our portfolio and continue their amazing work and dedication to the region,” Intrepid Travel ANZ managing director, Brett Mitchell, said.

“This acquisition marks a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding our sustainable and immersive travel experiences in Western Australia and is a testament to our commitment to delivering extraordinary travel experiences while supporting local community-based tourism. We are excited to welcome the KWE team into the Intrepid family and look forward to continuing our journey together.”

Intrepid and KWE have had a partnership for the past 17 years, working together to deliver exceptional travel experiences in the Kimberley Region. Under the agreement, Intrepid will acquire KWE’s fleet of vehicles and secure a lease on the iconic Bungle Bungle Camp. The acquisition will enable Intrepid to manage the entire operations in the Kimberley Region, ensuring a seamless transition and consolidation of Intrepid’s national presence.

Kimberley Wild Expeditions will continue to operate the Kimberley Travellers Lodge and will partner with Intrepid under a standard Agent Sales Agreement to sell products in the region.

“This acquisition will allow Intrepid to fulfil its operational ambitions within the Kimberley and continue our work and commitment to the region,” Kimberley Wild Expeditions managing director, James Weeding, said.

“After partnering with Intrepid for the last 17 years as an operator, it’s the perfect timing for this transition and our team to formally join Intrepid’s business. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Intrepid as an agent and continuing to attract new travellers to the Kimberley.”

The acquisition underscores Intrepid’s commitment to sustainability as a B Corp, enhancing its ability to design and deliver culturally enriching and environmentally conscious travel experiences in Australia.

It also follows Intrepid’s recent acquisitions of JOOB and Haka Tours in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
