Mercure Sydney announced as accommodation partner for BeerFest Sydney

Expect plenty of bottled water at bedside tables at Mercure Sydney which has just been announced as the official accommodation partner for BeerFest Sydney, which launches at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour on 6-7 December.

BeerFest, supporting Aussie craft brewers and local producers at a time they most need it, will attract more than 8,000 people to the Darling Harbour and surrounding neighbourhoods, with Mercure Sydney just a five-minute walk away. There are around 700 craft breweries in Australia and the industry has grown more than 80 per cent in the past eight years. The market is now worth $160 million, contributes $1.93 billion to the economy and directly employs about 10,000 people, according to a recent report in The Sydney Morning Herald.

But more than 20 breweries have closed in the past 12 months, with brewers saying beer tax has been ramped up by high inflation, with rate rises totalling more than 17 per cent since early 2020.

“Supporting our local producers is more crucial than ever,” BeerFest co-director James Harding, said.

Sydney festivalgoers now have a chance to help out more than 100 of our finest brewers, cider-makers, distillers, cocktail and food producers, enjoy masterclasses, and witness the nationally acclaimed ‘Beer Olympics’, where revellers and exhibitors compete to win the coveted ‘Golden Tinnie’.

Mercure Sydney, an Accor hotel is part of the Schwartz Family Company, also owns and operates Sydney Brewery.

The family-friendly weekend is filled with free activities and entertainment, featuring a star-studded lineup including live comedy, masterclasses, beer-food pairings, cocktail mixology, and the “Beer Olympics”. DJ John Course and the Daft Punk Discovery Tribute Show will provide live music, and unique and on-site activations include tattoo artists.

“At BeerFest, we love to push boundaries and create lifelong memories through unique and engaging experiences,” Harding said. “We offer a perfect combination of education and fun, allowing festival-goers to get up close and personal with the innovators behind their favourite bevvies, and have fun in the process.

“Our program celebrates creativity, diversity, and all things that make our industry one of the greatest in the world.

“We’re proud to present Sydney BeerFest at Tumbalong Park as the ultimate blend of party vibes and brew education. It’s a place where good times and great flavours collide.”

“We’ll have lots of activations and family-friendly activities, and hopefully convert general beer, cider, gin, whisky, and wine drinkers into appreciating craft and boutique drops, and learning something new in the process.”
